The Story Behind Drums4Health
Drums4Health was founded by Tamsin Ward, an experienced music educator with a passion for helping people improve their health, confidence, and wellbeing through rhythm and movement.
Having spent many years as a Head and Director of Music in schools, Tamsin witnessed first-hand the positive impact that music can have on people’s confidence, communication, engagement, and overall wellbeing. This experience inspired the creation of a programme that combines the benefits of music and movement in a way that is accessible, enjoyable, and inclusive.
What began as a small community class has grown into a thriving wellbeing initiative delivering sessions throughout Exeter and Devon. Along the way, Drums4Health has continued to evolve, introducing specialist programmes, expanding into new locations, and developing opportunities for instructors across the UK and beyond.

Combining Music, Movement & Wellbeing

By combining rhythm-based activities with accessible movement, participants can experience the benefits of exercise without the pressure often associated with traditional fitness environments.
Sessions are designed to support:
- Physical fitness and movement
- Confidence and self-expression
- Social interaction and connection
- Emotional wellbeing
- Coordination and focus
- Community participation
This approach has helped Drums4Health connect with a diverse range of audiences, from fitness participants and schools to dementia groups, businesses, and community organisations.

One of the unique aspects of Drums4Health is the development of purpose-designed fitness drums.
Working alongside specialist designers and manufacturers, Drums4Health has created portable, storage-friendly drums specifically designed to support movement-based wellbeing sessions.
This innovation has helped make the programme more accessible and adaptable, while also creating opportunities for future instructor development and wider programme delivery.
It is another example of the commitment to making rhythm-based wellbeing activities accessible to as many people as possible.
